Drive/Run/Dishes Ruminations

I do a lot of listening to podcasts and the news while driving, running, and doing the dishes.

Most of the time, I need to stop driving, running, and doing the dishes to note down my thoughts (good, bad, but never indifferent).

This then leads to rabbit hole meandering and corresponding ruminations you may partake in below.

I'm also a sports nut so most posts will end with something hoops related. Other sports will likely follow.

Last but not least - talk to me! Schedule a call here, and let's get your project off the ground. Or if your wife/husband/partner/grandma/local barista has had enough, you can ramble on to me, I know the feeling.

Lifestyle Writing - I Really do Enjoy it!

I was approached a couple of months ago by Luxury Home Magazine to write for them. As the name suggests, it's a luxury home magazine, and while we all strive, more than likely, to eventually live in a luxury home (and have a luxury lifestyle), my day-to-day life is not quite at that Tom Brady level yet. With that said, I have always admired the writers who can spin adjectives the way many of them do in magazines like this one, so I let the publisher know that I was game to give it a go.

I Talked to My Dad About the November Presidential Election

I have had the good fortune of working with folks around the world. The US is by far the only place where it is still taboo to talk about who you are going to vote for. There are a lot of theories on the subject, but it’s 2024, and if there was ever a year people were remaining tight-tipped, we’re in it. So, while my conversation with my Dad did not veer into the treacherous waters of Biden or Trump, we did have an interesting back-and-forth about the perceptions of the economy and the country and whether the data support people’s feelings.

Smartphone Bans for Kids and a Proposed Ban on Giving Patrick Mahomes Additional Weapons

Another fascinating fellow on this subject is Jonathan Haidt, who just wrote “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness.” Haidt’s premise - the spike in teenage anxiety and depression is correlated with the rise in smartphones and social media. Haidt’s solution - No smartphones before high school and no social media before age sixteen. For all of you with kids with smartphones and social media below the age of 16 (alas, me included …. F&%#)

A No-Landing Economy, the ESG Train to Nowhere, and Jamal Murray Crushing LA

The average credit card APR is a record high of 20.75%. Paying off $5,000 in debt at this rate would take 279 months and $8,124 in interest. The flip side, however, is that U.S. incomes, on average, have risen to equal or greater levels than the increased costs for services and goods. Inflation is also down from previous highs, but psychologically, we always pay more attention to how much we’re spending as opposed to how much more we’re bringing in.
